The Jerusalem Talmud, or Yerushalmi, or Talmud of the Land of Israel, is a commentary on the oral law (the Mishnah) of Israel that ties that oral law to the written law (the Torah, the Hebrew Scripture). Completed about 200 years prior to The Babylonian Talmud (Bavli), it records the first such compilation of Jewish scholarly thought.
Jacob Neusner completed this monumental American translation and commentary of The Jerusalem Talmud in the last decade, but until now it has been expensive and difficult to obtain. Now all thirty-nine Yerushalmi tractates as translated by Professor Neusner and Tzvee Zahavy have been brought together in this CD-ROM. In addition to a preface and general introduction to the whole work, Professor Neusner has provided fresh and helpful introductions to each of the tractates. He has also provided within his translation the references to Bible verses alluded to in the Yerushalmi. This electronic edition contains the full content of the translation, commentary on most of the tractates, and introductions to each. is this only the book or a book & CD , I would love this , if it is BOTH???
HELLO, I have not read this myself as it's a matter of discussion between myself[Harvard Divinity D,Div, 1995 ]and my good friend and Rabbi[JTS D.Div. 1990] who question the reliability of the Arabic language translation for accuracy, nuance of language, and overall reliability. My foundation's institute has an office not far from Old Cairo[once Fostat] in Egypt and has an International Scholar and Executive Director who worked years in the USA as an Arabic language teacher and translator who commented on this. Until a scholarly, knowlegdeable, and Arabic as a first language fluent translator, such as my Egyptian friend, OK's any translation of the PALESTINE Talmud as referenced by the Rambam[Moses ben Maimon], I give NO star for No current reliable and verifiable translation at all.
